It's 6 PM. You're tired. The thought of a complicated recipe with 15 ingredients makes you want to order pizza. These dinners use 5 ingredients or fewer (not counting salt, pepper, and oil β those are assumed), take under 30 minutes, and actually taste good.
1. Garlic Butter Pasta (15 min)
Ingredients: Spaghetti, butter, garlic (4-5 cloves), parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes.
Cook pasta. In the same pot, melt 4 tbsp butter, sautΓ© minced garlic 1 minute, add pasta back, toss with parmesan and red pepper flakes. Restaurant-worthy aglio e olio in 15 minutes.
2. BBQ Chicken Thighs (25 min)
Ingredients: Chicken thighs, BBQ sauce, garlic powder.
Season chicken with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Pan-sear skin-side down 5 minutes. Flip, brush with BBQ sauce, bake at 400Β°F for 15 minutes. Serve with whatever side you have β rice, frozen vegetables, or bread.
3. Quesadillas (10 min)
Ingredients: Tortillas, shredded cheese, canned chicken or beans, salsa.
Fill tortilla with cheese and protein. Fold. Cook in a dry pan 2 minutes per side. Serve with salsa. Dinner in 10 minutes.
4. Pesto Pasta with Sausage (20 min)
Ingredients: Pasta, Italian sausage (sliced), jar of pesto, cherry tomatoes, parmesan.
Cook pasta. Brown sausage in a pan. Toss everything together with pesto and halved cherry tomatoes. Top with parmesan. A restaurant meal in 20 minutes.
5. Egg Fried Rice (15 min)
Ingredients: Leftover rice, eggs (3-4), soy sauce, frozen peas and carrots, sesame oil.
Heat oil in a large pan. Scramble eggs, push aside. Add rice and frozen vegetables, stir-fry 3 minutes. Add soy sauce and sesame oil. Toss together. Better than takeout, 15 minutes, costs about $2.
6. Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese (15 min)
Ingredients: Can of tomato soup, bread, butter, American cheese.
Heat soup. Make grilled cheese (butter, bread, cheese, pan, 3 min per side). The ultimate comfort combo. Sometimes the simplest dinner is the best one.
7. Teriyaki Salmon (15 min)
Ingredients: Salmon fillets, teriyaki sauce, broccoli.
Place salmon and broccoli on a sheet pan. Brush salmon with teriyaki sauce. Bake at 400Β°F for 12 minutes. Serve over rice if you have it. Healthy dinner, almost zero effort.
8. Tacos (15 min)
Ingredients: Ground beef or turkey, taco seasoning, tortillas, shredded cheese, salsa.
Brown meat, add seasoning packet + water, simmer 5 minutes. Fill tortillas. Add cheese and salsa. Dinner in 15 minutes that everyone likes.
9. Baked Potato + Toppings (20 min)
Ingredients: Potatoes, butter, shredded cheese, sour cream.
Microwave potato 5 minutes per side (poke holes first). Cut open, load with butter, cheese, sour cream. Add leftover chili, broccoli, or bacon if you have it. The ultimate lazy dinner.
10. Caprese Chicken (20 min)
Ingredients: Chicken breast, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, balsamic glaze, basil.
Season and pan-sear chicken 5 min per side. Top with sliced mozzarella and halved tomatoes. Broil 3 minutes until cheese melts. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and fresh basil. Looks fancy, takes 20 minutes.
