Some of the greatest museums in the world charge nothing to walk through their doors. While European museums often cost $20-30 per person, America has an incredible tradition of free museum access that most people don't fully take advantage of.
Here are 15 museums that are completely free, absolutely world-class, and worth planning a trip around.

2. National Air and Space Museum β The Wright Brothers' original Flyer, the Apollo 11 command module, and a real SR-71 Blackbird spy plane. Recently renovated with stunning new galleries.
3. National Museum of American History β The actual Star-Spangled Banner that inspired the national anthem, Dorothy's ruby slippers, Abraham Lincoln's top hat, and Julia Child's kitchen. American culture in one building.
