From New York City
- Hudson Valley (2 hours): Cute small towns, fall foliage, farm-to-table restaurants, wineries, and hiking at Breakneck Ridge. Stay in Beacon, Cold Spring, or Rhinebeck.

- Door County, WI (4 hours): Wisconsin's Cape Cod. Cherry orchards, fish boils, lighthouses, kayaking, and small-town charm. Best June-October.
From Washington DC

- Blue Ridge, GA (1.5 hours): Small mountain town with a scenic railway, apple orchards, tubing in summer, and fall foliage.
